Tattersalls November Mixed sale was
well attended
Lexington, KY -
Buyers from all over North America, as well as several from
overseas, were in attendance and were buying at the November
Mixed Sale held at Tattersalls in Lexington on Sunday, November
24. The event grossed over $2 million for the 194 horses sold,
which featured reductions from Walnut Hall Ltd. and Ambrosio
Stables, and the dispersal of Uptown Stable.
Kerstin Milton of Clarksburg, New Jersey, signed the ticket on
behalf of a buyer from Italy on the sales topper - the Valley
Victory mare Giulietta Armbrosio - who sold for $140,000.
Consigned by Peninsula Farm as agent, the seven-year-old mare is
a full sister to Act of Grace [3,1:52.3, $403,525] and Prolific
Lady [3,1:56.2, $373,925] and a half-sister to the dam of Mr Vic
and Marita's Victory. Giulietta Ambrosio, who has a Pine Chip
two year old and yearling, sold in foal to New Jersey-eligible
Dream Vacation.
"We're very encouraged by the growth of this sale," said
Geoffrey Stein, Tattersalls' general manager. Stein and Director
of Operations David Reid took over the reins for the historic
sale when the Red Mile and Tattersalls were purchased by Frank
Antonacci, the late Paul Nigito, Bill Perretti, George Segal and
Joe Thomson in 2000.
"The first year, we had the dispersal of Castleton Farm, which
was record-setting, and last year we sold Cameron Hall for $1.1
million, which was another record," said Stein. "This sale
featured a much more balanced catalog without a huge dispersal
or a headliner like Cameron Hall. It was a very well-balanced
group of horses, and I think we've found a good niche.
"We had a broad range of buyers from Europe and Canada, as well
as people from all over the United States," he said. "That bodes
well for what we're trying to do at this sale. Moving it from
December to the weekend before Thanksgiving was well-received."
The Artsplace daughter Artopia, selling in foal in Western
Hanover, brought the second-highest price, selling to Larry
Pollard of Harrow, Ontario for $110,000. Consigned by Brittany
Farms, agent for Brittany and the Brian Monieson Revtrust, the
six-year-old Artopia [p,3,1:54.3] hails from the female family
of Three Diamonds, Tucson Hanover, Leah Almahurst, millionaire
Naughty But Nice, and a host of other stakes performers.
Mark Mullen, acting of behalf of Steve Jones of Montgomery, New
York, went to $65,000 to acquire the Malabar Man daughter Only
Desire, who is foal to Self Possessed. The three-year-old Only
Desire, who was consigned by Brittany Farms, counts 1974 Horse
of the Year Delmonica Hanover [$834,073] among the standouts on
her female side of the family.
"We had a good sale," said Brittany Farms General Manager Art
Zubrod. "It looks to me like there's still plenty of interest in
the breeding business, which is good news for all of us."
